Abstract:
The importance of mitigating Power Quality (PQ) disturbances by utilizing Active Power Filter (APF) has long since been recognized and extensive research on this field has been conducted resulting in a great diversity of solutions. Facing current ambitions e.g. in raising the share of power generation based on renewable energy sources will pose new challenges in maintaining system stability evoked by PQ issues. This paper deals with a modular shunt-type APF, conceptualized to perform various grid conditioning measures such as improving supply reliability, mitigating voltage quality disturbances and providing other ancillary services. A simulation study validates the effectiveness of the proposed control approaches with the main focus on reactive and distortion reactive power compensation.
