Abstract:

This paper presents a model predictive current control method for a class E resonant inverter for piezoelectric ceramic transducer (PCTs) applications. The capacitor voltage is used to predict a future value of the load current of the PCT. The class E resonant inverter is operated at the suboptimal mode to minimize switching losses of the power switch. Power switches operate under zero voltage switching (ZVS) condition. The proposed method is straightforward and can be implemented on a digital controller provided that its physical model is known a priori. The class E resonant inverter hardware is constructed and the control algorithm is implemented using a STM32f4 microcontroller. For verification purpose, an operational region of the class E resonant inverter with the frequency range of 27-33 kHz and output current of 80-130 mA is displayed.
