Abstract:

This paper presents the design key aspects and analysis of the novel Synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM)with sinusoidal rotor lamination shape in the axial direction. The considerations for basic design parameters selection are presented. The effect of rotor cut-off opening and number of rotor slots, and the effect of changing the q-axis rotor cut-off on the novel SynRM torque harmonics have been analyzed. From both analytical and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), it is proven that the magnetic airgap flux density and the electromagnetic torque, have harmonics related directly to rotor cut-offs, number of stator and rotor slots.
