Abstract:
In this paper, a reset winding forward converter with low input current ripple and low switch voltage stress is proposed. An auxiliary winding and a DC-blocking capacitor are used to reduce the input current ripple, thereby making di/dt smaller. As a result, input filter size is reduced by having low EMI characteristics, and the capacitor lifetime is extended due to the small RMS input current. One switch and one diode are added to decrease the voltage stress on the switch. Therefore, the proposed converter has a small turn-off loss and can be used for low on-state resistance FETs to improve the switch loss. This paper presents a detailed mode analysis and theoretical analysis. The proposed converter is validated with experimental results with Si- and GaN-FET under an input voltage of 50 V, an output voltage of 15 V, an output power of 100 W, and a switching frequency of 300 kHz.
