Abstract:

The six-phase induction motor becomes widely used in drive systems because of its better torque production per ampere, lower torque ripple and higher reliability. In this paper, analysis of the most effective space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) strategy is carried out, indicating that the switching frequency can be further decreased to reduce the switching loss and to extend the lifetime of devices. Then, a new SVPWM strategy with lower switching frequency is proposed by modifying the choice of voltage vectors. Finally, a comparison between the proposed SVPWM strategy and the traditional ones is carried out. The results show that the proposed strategy can not only reduce switching loss, but it can also provide low harmonic distortion factor (HDF) and low current total harmonic distortion.
