Abstract:

Measuring the stator temperature of an electric machine can not only safeguard the system from overheating, but can also improve the control and thermal utilization of the drive. In this contribution a mean stator temperature estimation system was developed based on a simple observer structure including a novel loss compensation system. It is demonstrated that such a system is capable of accurately estimating the mean stator temperature of a high power automotive grade electric machine (EM).
