Abstract:

Non-uniform solar irradiation due to changes in environmental conditions results in partial shading conditions (PSC). The introduction of a bypass diode reduces the effect of PSC. However, they generate multiple power peaks in the characteristics of the PV array. The conventional techniques fail to track the maximum power under PSC. Owing to the drawbacks of traditional MPPT’s on tracking the global power, optimization algorithms are employed. However, few optimization algorithms require extensive data for the training process, shows a slow convergence rate and power fluctuation. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel nature-inspired Spotted Hyena (SHO) algorithm that is capable of tracking maximum power under PSCs. The algorithm proposed here is effective in finding global power even under the change of solar irradiation. The MATLAB simulation and experimental studies are performed for the performance evaluation of the algorithm. After analyzing the results it is observed that the proposed method is efficient when comparing with recent existing algorithms. The algorithm has an excellent dynamic response compared to few current optimization techniques.
