Abstract:

In order to expand the output voltage range for a series-series (S-S) resonant converter, a wide frequency modulation window is typically required, which can adversely affect the system's performance. The objective of the paper is to narrow down the necessary frequency window by optimizing the design of two resonant tanks of an S-S resonant converter. To address this, a novel 5-Switch bridge-based symmetric S-S resonant converter has been proposed. The 5-Switch bridge allows for the operation of the two S-S resonant tanks in various configurations by utilizing four distinct switch patterns. These configurations include both tanks functioning as lone half-bridges, two tanks in half-bridge modes, one tank in half-bridge mode and the other in full-bridge mode, and both tanks in full-bridge modes. To verify the performance of the proposed converter in different modes, the MATLAB/SIMULINK simulations have been performed at the power level of 7.2 kW with a wide output voltage of 200-800 V. The peak efficiency of the proposed converter absorbed around 95.3 % in full bridge mode.
