Abstract:

Monitoring long-term changes in tidal flat areas is crucial. The Nakdong River Estuary in Korea has continuously changed its topography over the past 90 years due to various human activities. Recently, the opening of a dike has altered sedimentation patterns. Long-term satellite data can analyze these changes, but detected tidal flat areas vary with tidal levels and seasonal effects, introducing errors in long-term analysis. This study measures long-term tidal flat area variations using multi-temporal Sentinel-1 data, mitigating tidal and seasonal effects. A long-term tidal flat area decrease of km2/year was observed until 2017. Future research will compare major events with area variations.
