Abstract:
Tracking first responders is crucial for safe and secure rescue operations. In this paper, we propose a simple and novel way of tracking first responders using a passive RFID tag attached to their backpacks. The proposed method is based on variations observed in the phase received from the tag when it moves in a linear and rotational trajectory and the availability of a floor plan. A setup has been installed for tracking humans in an L-shaped corridor, whose layout is known and the results are compared with that of Smartphone IMU based indoor navigation.
