Abstract:

Digital twin is a rapidly emerging technology in the field of digitalization, offering great capabilities for analyzing, simulating, and optimizing real-world systems. Digital twin coupled with Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS), an analytical technique with widespread use in different fields can bring rapid advancement in the field of IMS. In this paper, we discuss digital twin technology and its use in the field of IMS, then we propose an architecture for the digital twin of IMS spectrometer composed of three main layers based on different digital twin architectures. Furthermore, we design digital twin according to this proposed architecture where we describe used technologies and more thoroughly go over digital twin implementation on the physical layer. Finally, we discuss this design and future work where we will continue with the development of this concept because of its potential. This paper aims to introduce the idea of using digital twin technology for IMS, outline the areas which would benefit from this and explore its feasibility.
