Abstract:

In this research, we evaluate and compare the depth mapping capabilities of Light Field (LF) cameras and Kinect sensors. By examining their technological architectures, we assess their ability to capture depth information accurately. LF cameras offer detailed 3D reconstructions with adjustable focus after capture, while Kinect sensors provide essential depth data useful for gesture recognition and movement tracking. This comparative study aims to highlight the depth accuracy and distance preservation capabilities of each system, guiding the choice of suitable camera technology for applications requiring precise depth information, such as 3D modeling. Our analysis seeks to deepen the understanding of how each technology performs in spatial data capture and interpretation, offering insights into their respective strengths and limitations for various applications.
