Abstract:
A new spatial analytical method is developed from a hypernetwork model of cellular automata (CA) to analyze the dynamic flow of urban traffic. This ground-breaking model focuses on the decomposition of traffic lanes, which then contributes to the scientific traffic projection. The hypernetwork model consists of hypernodes and hyperedges at the macro level. The hypernodes are defined by one-dimensional (1D) CA to represent traffic intersection states. The hyperedges are the links between hypernodes and therefore used to represent the movement or flow of the intersections. At the micro level, cells dwell in 1D CA hypernodes. By applying a set of state equations on these cells, the simulation results show that the traffic system could reach its asymptotic state, and the traffic flow characteristics are much consistent with the academic conclusions.
