Abstract:
The fifth generation (5G) communication technology that provides faster data speeds, lower latency and greater network capacity. Among its many applications, 5G plays a crucial role in smart education and smart campuses. One of the key technologies that enable 5G network for smart education is the millimeter wave (mmWave) antenna systems, which allows the transmission and reception of multi data streams simultaneously, improving network performance and efficiency. The mmWave antenna is essential in meeting the demand for higher data rates for the 5G enabled smart education applications. This article presents a novel shape, light weight, low profile and compact size mmWave antenna for smart education applications. The proposed antenna is designed on ultra-thin 0.254 mm RO5880 substrate with relative permittivity of 2.3. The design is composed of square shape patch with parallel lines and partial ground plane with square slot. The dimension of antenna is 6 ×10 mm2and operating frequency achieved is 24-34.36 GHz. The antenna showed peak efficiency of 95% with a gain of 4.51 and 4.74 dBi at 26 and 28 GHz respectively. Through the results, the proposed antenna can be considered as a strong candidate of mmWave 5G networks for smart education applications.
