Abstract:
Construction projects exert a profound and lasting influence on the natural environment. Over the complete lifespan of buildings within the context of smart cities, there exists a dynamic interplay between these structures and the environment. This complexity introduces challenges in decision-making regarding the choice of the most optimal materials and technological solutions, leading to specific implications in subsequent phases of the project. This study adopts an analytical approach, aiming to investigate practical management issues pertaining to the construction, operation, and deconstruction of selected building types. It embraces the principles of the circular economy, aligning this construction model with the overarching concept of smart cities. The document elaborates on the concept of sustainable development, delving into the roles played by various stakeholders in the construction industry towards achieving sustainable development objectives, while also discussing associated costs, benefits, and barriers. Moreover, the text expounds on the principles underpinning the circular economy within the context of smart cities and offers a comprehensive analysis of the shift from a linear construction model to a circular one within the construction sector. Additionally, the document presents findings from an empirical study conducted to gauge the perception of sustainable construction within the Polish market, along with a presentation of its outcomes.
