Abstract:
An integrated optical sensor array, covering the requirements of a 14-bit absolute rotary encoder, is presented. The circuit is based on a light pulsed technique and operates with an input signal frequency up to 50 kHz. It detects a minimum optical power of 300 /spl mu/W/cm/sup -2/ at 880 nm. The sensor has been fabricated in standard 0.8 /spl mu/m double-metal CMOS technology and its maximum power dissipation is 5 mW at 5 V.
