Abstract:

Evaluating the end-to-end congestion control protocols in heterogeneous wired-cum-wireless environment is becoming important and challenging, because wireless networks have their own characteristics such as high burst packet loss due to deep fading, handoff, and roaming. This paper addresses the rate control protocol, end-to-end, for streaming media in mobile wireless Internet. Specifically, we propose an end-to-end rate control protocol that can efficiently recover from rate reduction of heavy burst loss, while having good TCP-friendliness under low loss cases. Analysis and simulation results demonstrate the efficiency, fairness, and TCP-friendliness of our approach for streaming media in heterogeneous mobile wireless Internet.
