Abstract:

A 2D discrete cosine transform (2D DCT) has become a very popular transform among video compression and some other real-time applications. This paper presents an analog current-mode realization of 2D DCT designed for video compression processors. The designed structure is fast, has small power consumption and takes a small silicon area. It is discussed in the paper that the accuracy requirements for converting either I- or P-frame differ and this reflects to the layout area of the proposed structure.
