Abstract:
We designed and fabricated an 8-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) in a 0.5/spl mu/m silicon-on-sapphire CMOS technology. The ultra-low power and low voltage design of the ADC was targeted for wireless sensor interfaces and energy-scavenging systems. The ADC is capable of 4.5MHz operation, producing 409kS/s, consuming 3/spl mu/Watt at 1.5V power supply. It uses an active area of 615/spl times/782/spl mu/m/sup 2/ . The acceptable input range is 0.97V at 1.5V power supply.
