Abstract:
Diode rectifier circuits are often used as front-end stage in many electronic loads in ac power systems. Average-value modeling (AVM) has been indispensible for studying power electronic systems, wherein the complicated switched sub-circuit may be substituted by appropriate non-switching average sub-circuit with dependent/controllable sources and other circuit elements. For time-domain transient simulation, the rectifier AVMs are developed using analytical derivations in transformed qd coordinates, and such models do not cover wide range of operating conditions as well as being difficult to interface with external ac network which is represented in abc phase coordinates/variables. In this paper, a new parametric AVM of diode rectifier circuit for nodal analysis EMTP-Type solution is proposed. The new model is directly interfaced and solved simultaneously with the ac network. The proposed model is verified against the detailed model and the previously established analytical AVM, and shown to have an improved accuracy in wider range of operating conditions.
