Abstract:

In Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs), data can be transmitted between vehicles and infrastructured devices. This paper proposes the development of a communication device capable of operating in both IEEE 802.11p and 3G modes. To validate the operation of the communication device, Android and server applications were developed, in order to collect vehicle physical data (such as engine status, speed and GPS location) and transmit them to a server, using the communication device proposed. The device was able to transmit vehicle status to the server successfully, choosing the best available link between 3G and IEEE 802.11p.
