Abstract:

This paper presents the development of PID design optimization using Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) and Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA). The optimal PID coefficients are repeatedly searched for using in a buck converter (step-down converter) control process. The system including the PID controller and the conventional buck converter are modelled and implemented in Matlab/Simulink. Simulation results, comparing in terms of searching time and solution quality, reveal that FPA performs better. Additionally, we extend the capability FPA by adding hierarchical search, called HFPA. The quality of the results can be improved in the same searching time.
