Abstract:
This paper delineates the application of Multistage Homotopy Perturbation Method (MHPM) for time domain simulation of multi-machine power systems. MHPM is introduced as an alternative to the popular and extensively used numerical integration methods. It is a semi analytical method which works on the principles of topology to decompose a complex nonlinear equation to a set of simple equations. This method gives solution as a rapidly convergent infinite series. In this paper, the differential equations of synchronous machine (IEEE Model 1.1) and IEEE Type 1 excitation system have been converted to a 3 term MHPM model. The MHPM models have been tested on widely used 3 generator 9 bus system for 3 — φ fault simulations. Through several simulations it has been shown that the MHPM is about 1.83 times faster than Midpoint-Trapezoidal method, with comparable accuracy.
