Abstract:
Analysis of power systems is normally executed using either phase coordinates or symmetrical components. In most cases, the decision on the selection is based on the type of the network and its loading. Most of the approaches use symmetrical components only in cases of a balanced network with a balanced loading for the calculation of the electrical power flow. In all other cases, phase coordinates are typically used. This paper derives a new approach for the description of a network which is based on Fortescue's transformation, which is the general description of polyphase-systems. This approach generalizes the use of symmetrical components for network applications in power systems with one phase-, two phase- and three phase-components.
