Abstract:
Linearized or DC optimal power flow (OPF) algorithms are extensively used in power system management both during operation and planning. Those algorithms offer in many applications a good compromise between accuracy and calculation performance. Recently the growing need of planning and controlling mixed AC and DC grids required a reviewed formulation of the classical DC OPF. This paper proposes a novel formulation of the DC OPF problem for mixed AC and DC grids. The matrices expressing the optimization problem equality and inequality constraints are suitably derived to model embedded, multi-terminal and meshed HVDC connections. Preventive and corrective security can be analyzed considering AC and DC outages. The validity and the performance of the proposed optimization model is demonstrated on IEEE 5 node test grid. The advantage of the proposed formulation is its simplicity and comprehensibility.
