Abstract:
To fully benefit from distributed energy resources (DER) and motivate customers to provide services to support the network operation, commercial frameworks using market schemes to create new ancillary services from DERs are being trialed. DER management platforms are being proposed to support technical optimization of dispatch, which must now consider costs of ancillary services of participating devices into their objective function to take cost-effective decisions. This paper proposes to use decentralized voltage sensitivity estimations, performed locally by each participating DER and sent to the management system to alleviate its computational burden while allowing cost effective selection of adjustment of DER. The decisions taken via the proposed approach are validated by comparing with decisions taken by a benchmarked optimization tool, that obtains optimal dispatch based on centralized data acquisition and decision-making, which is unpractical for control and coordination of large fleet of DERs.
