Recently, a significant number of identity management solutions based on the blockchain technology had been proposed. From the development point of view, applications are still not mature enough and are continuously developed and tested before going into production. From the user point of view, the benefits and implications of such applications can be difficult to understand because the majority of the solutions are slowly building up their user community. How the blockchain technology influences the user's perception of personal identity and how this perception can influence the user's behavior in blockchain applications, is a significant topic that requires further research. This paper aims at offering a view on this social impact of using blockchain technology in applications. Particularly we are interested in how the self-sovereign paradigm (whose implementation is facilitated by the blockchain environment) can influence the user perception of identity in the blockchain applications.
