Abstract:

This study describes the transmission characteristics in the case of an implantable transcutaneous energy and information transmission system using a dedicated figure-eight coil for information transmission in instances when misalignments occur in the system's transformer. Use of high-frequency information transmission was advantageous compared to low-frequency transmissions when the figure-eight coil was used when misalignments occurred. The associated mechanism was clarified by electromagnetic field analyses. Simulations showed that at low frequencies, current flowed along the coil tracks, whereas at high frequencies, current flowed along the circular shape of the outer peripheral coil.
