Abstract:

This paper presents an ultra-wideband millimeter-wave (mm-wave) wireless transceiver (TRX) achieving 120Gb/s data-rate, which is the highest rate among the state-of-the-art mm-wave transceivers [1-4]. The data-rate of 120Gb/s is realized by two 15GBaud data streams in 16-QAM modulation (2×15×4b/symbol=120Gb/s). The total 30GBaud signal is up- and down-converted with 70GHz and 105GHz LO signals, which are generated by a doubler and a tripler from an external 35GHz source input with more than 29dBc and 38dBc undesired harmonic suppression, respectively. Single-IF balanced mixers are employed in the TX with an LO leakage-cancellation technique. Hence, the TRX is capable of transmitting and receiving the whole bandwidth of 35GHz. The power consumptions of transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) are 120 and 160mW, respectively. The total core area for the TRX is 3.2mm2.
