Abstract:

We consider wireless information and power transfer in a multi-user massive multiple-input multiple-output (MU-Massive-MIMO) system, where several distributed antenna sets, also denoted as remote radio heads (RRHs), are deployed, while the users can simultaneously perform information detection and energy harvesting. Assuming a large number of antennas and autonomous power allocation for the information and energy signals at each RRH, we derive the deterministic equivalent of signal to interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and the average transferred power for each user. Then, the minimum transferred power among users is maximized subject to the SINR constraint on all users, in which the choice of energy beamforming coefficients plays an essential role, and categorizes the optimization problem into either a linear programming or a complementary geometric programming. Different transmission schemes are evaluated in terms of complexity, user fairness, and optimized power transfer. Numerical results illustrate the significance of combining massive MIMO with distributed antennas to enhance the power transfer with guaranteed SINR/rate in MU-Massive-MIMO.
