Abstract:

This paper introduces an innovative four quater architecture dedicated to Internet of Things (IoT) devices whose security is enforced by secure elements. In this context an object is made with four components: a general purpose unit (GPU), a radio system on chip (SoC), a secure element acting as identity module that processes TLS packets, and sensor/actuator devices. The TLS secure element acts as an applicative firewall. We present an experimental platform, realizing a connected thermometer object, built around an Arduino microcontroller, cheap Wi-Fi SoC, commercial javacard and temperature sensor. This low price, low power consumption secure system, has a response time of about 6s.
