Abstract:

A brief biography of Elwood King "Woody" Gannett is given highlighting his professional achievements. In 1962 the Institute elevated him to the grade of Fellow, an unusual step since his contributions were not in technical engineering. He held the post of Deputy General Manager from 1981 until his retirement. He was a Founder and Former President of the Society for Scholarly Publishing and served as President of the National Federation of Abstracting and Information Services (NFAIS), Secretary and Vice Chairman of the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), and Secretary of Engineering Information Services. He was also a Fellow of the Society for Technical Communication and the recipient of an IEEE Centennial Medal.
