Abstract:

Software Process Improvement contributes to enhance the utility, performance and effectiveness of the processes developed by the organizations. However, there are some limitations such as resources to use and its high implementation cost. There are models, standards and guidelines to direct the implementation of improvement projects, which assess the organizations conditions when the investment has already begun without a prior knowledge of the possible results to be obtained. This investigation aims to realize an organizations assessment prior to the investment in Software Process Improvement. In this sense, the organizations success is forecast taking into account the Critical Success Factors that influence the Software Process Improvement. Among the classification techniques, evolutionary Artificial Neural Network was used, due to the variability and dynamism of the Critical Success Factors. The application of this technique allows the adaptation of a network to different situations, for knowing the organizations states to face the processes improvement considering the experiences acquired by others organizations. The validation results corroborated the accuracy and feasibility of the network, for the success forecast of organizations at the beginning of a Software Processes Improvement project.
