Abstract:
As VR video resolutions approach bandwidth limits, spatial audio becomes crucial for immersion but requires higher bandwidth. This paper highlights the lack of attention to audio optimization in current VR video streaming frameworks. We provide evidence that certain tile-based caching frameworks, which were initially efficient, become inefficient in specific scenarios due to the disregard for audio caching details. To overcome this, we propose an audio transmission and caching framework with a mechanism for transmitting audio files and a fast, multi-mobile edge computing (MEC) collaborative caching algorithm called GlobCache. The goal is to reduce data transmission in the network. We evaluate the algorithm’s effectiveness in different scenarios through experiments.
