Abstract:

Aim of the paper is to demonstrate how interconnecting low cost BLE wrist sensing edge devices to local and remote control systems to give rise to a pervasive and M-Connected Eldercare, i.e., an effective continuous monitoring and control of the health status of elderly people. The paper does not deal with a specific pathology but illustrates how the proposed platform may help elderly people to maintain a well living health status. The paper discusses how the data sensed by wrist bands/watches are used by a control system resident on an local edge device to carry out a fast diagnosis for the first control actions. Then, how using two low cost web services is illustrated to better help the elderly people: one is IFTTT to alert medical staff and family members about detected problems, the other is Beebotte to collect the sensed data on a remote DB to support effectively the medical decisions.
