Abstract:
We analyze the area energy efficiency of a device-to-device communication network with limited feedback employing antenna selection (AS). By considering that devices are distributed according to a homogeneous Poisson point process, we derive expressions for the AS and an MIMO beamforming (BF) scheme, used as a performance benchmark. Numerical results show that AS is more energy efficient for shorter transmission distances, even if BF employs a theoretically infinite number of feedback bits. On the other hand, BF outperforms AS in terms of spectral efficiency, even using the same number of feedback bits.
