Abstract:

Motion detection is one of the hot-and difficult-topics in the field of computer vision and image processing. The visual background extractor (ViBe) algorithm has a high calculation speed and a simple implementation, which is suitable for embedded systems. However, it still has some defects with respect to ghost suppression and dynamic background interferences. In this article, a new motion detection method called optical flow ViBe (OF-ViBe) is proposed, which combines the improved ViBe algorithm and motion information. We not only introduce the speed information for removing the ghost and noise points more accurately but also reduce the dynamic background interferences using direction information. The detection results in different videos demonstrate that our method improves the accuracy and robustness of the ViBe algorithm with little additional time cost.
