Abstract:
In this paper we will develop a system that could be used at science fairs to teach children regarding robotics. The system which we developed is named “dancing with the robots”. This system explains the basic parts of robot (sensing and acting) through a dancing activity. The system incorporates a Microsoft Kinect sensor, used to detect the dancing movements of a child and control a Lego EV3 robot to move according to the detected movements, thus making the robot a dance partner of the child. Since the robot might hit different object while moving, we will write an algorithm for obstacles detection by the robot in a predefined distance. In addition, the child could select a dance song and should be able to define how the robot will respond to the dance movements. This task was very challenging since it involves the integration of different technologies such are: kinect movement detection and recognition, Bluetooth communication and robot programming.
