In the foreseeable future, mobile cellular networks are anticipated to be overwhelmed by a tremendous amount of mobile data. Although 4G and beyond 4G networks have increased the capacity of mobile networks, a new content-centric mobile network design paradigm is required to cope with the exponential mobile data growth rate. In other words, the dramatic growth in mobile cellular network traffic is shifting the connection-centric communications to content-centric ones. For example, mobile users are interested in video streaming and content sharing more than ever before, which is changing the conventional way of communication by simply making phone calls and sending text messages. In this Editorial, I would like to highlight the challenges associated with massive content delivery over next generation mobile networks.
