Abstract:

Fine motor skills are essential for performing daily tasks. Various factors can lead to upper extremity disorders which affect the ability to execute precise hand movements. Hand therapy focuses on treating these disorders to allow patients to be independent in their everyday lives. A major drawback is that traditional rehabilitation methods are often characterized time-consuming and reliant on clinic resources. Serious games offer a novel and effective approach to hand rehabilitation by combining therapeutic goals with engaging digital experiences. Our proposed solution is an innovative tool, ready to be used from any location by individuals with access to a computer, a webcam, and an internet connection. The serious game we designed and developed can serve both as an exercise and an assessment tool, allowing therapists to further optimize treatments.
