Abstract:
The Honolulu Rail Transit Project is a 20-mile elevated rail line along the south shore of O’ahu that connects West O’ahu, Pearl Harbor, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, downtown Honolulu, and Ala Moana Center near Waikiki, as shown in Figure 1. For most tourists, the long line for shuttle buses at the airport followed by traffic congestion before their destinations is a small price paid for all of the pleasure and fun in Hawaii. Yet the steadily growing population of Honolulu needs a fast, affordable, safe, and reliable public transportation alternative to buses, just like other cities in the United States.
