Abstract:

A methodology to optimally design CMOS amplifier stages is described. Unlike conventional approaches, which are based on iterative and lengthy methods, a closed form solution is proposed. The optimal device operating conditions are directly calculated from design constraints (such as voltage gain and bandwidth). The proposed analytical approach enables implementing accurate and fast optimization algorithms to speed up the design procedure. Design examples are provided to illustrate results of the proposed analysis and optimization methodology.
