Abstract:

Wireless multicast transmission can be enhanced by exploiting channel quality diversity among multicast members. Informed about this diversity, the multicast data source uses different rates to send data in different transmissions. This way of multicast transmission is called the Opportunistic Multicast Scheduling (OMS). Previous works have showed that this increases the network capacity. In our previous work [5], we proposed the OMS Feedback Protocol (OMSFP), which aims at providing information about multicast users diversity. We found out the expression of the capacity and proved from numerical results that the OMS gives better performance than the traditional multicast scheduling. However, simulation of the OMS protocol is necessary for comparing numerical results to simulation ones. Another interesting related work that has not been done is to give and discuss the algorithm that implements the OMSFP. The first contribution of this paper is the presentation of the algorithm used by the OMSFP. The second contribution is the presentation of two simulation methods and thus the OMS performance comparison between numerical results from expressions with simulation results. We found out that both results are close to each other but tuning is necessary when the average CNR γ̄is low.
