Abstract:

H3G is one of the first operators who launched a nationwide 3G UMTS network in Europe in 2003 to offer voice, video and data services to its customers. Every year an increased data traffic usage has been observed in the network. In order to deliver data services to the customers more efficiently, H3G has started to focus on new features which have been standardised in 3GPP and the challenges ahead. That is why H3G became one of the early drivers for multimedia broadcast multicast services (MBMS) feature which was specified in 3GPP Re16. This paper will analyse through simulations some of the 3GPP Re16/7 MBMS radio features and Systematic Raptor Forward Error Coding (FEC) performance in order to deploy an optimum MBMS service from an operator's view point.
