Abstract:
The motivation to increase the life quality of humans by transport has necessitated a trade-off between mobility and environmental-health with the discovery of stream engines that consume fossil fuels such gasoline and diesel. Greening the road transportation that accounts for 95% of sectoral emissions, is a vital challenge in order to reduce greenhouse gasses' emissions and air pollution as well to improve public health and comfort given that road transportation directly affects urban areas. In the present paper, we consider a university campus that experiences severe congestion due to being located in the middle of a skyscraper area in metropolitan city of Istanbul. We propose a Mixed Integer Linear Programming formulation in order to find an optimal routing plan for a university E-shuttle service considering a number of characteristics including driving ranges, distances and time limits, and bus stop nodes. Our exact cost optimal solution composed of vehicle purchasing and distance costs resulted in a single vehicle to be assigned where all the bus stop nodes are visited in a complete tour. Considering the strategy of the university towards a zero emission campus area, our solution helps to save considerable amount of CO2 exhaust compared with the current shuttle plan.
