Abstract:

Sub-wavelength directional sensing of the fly Ormia ochracea-inspired directional microphone serves the novelty over traditional directional microphones. Here, an application of sub-wavelength directional sensing of bio-inspired MEMS directional microphone, i.e., the AI speaker is reported. The AI speaker is designed to use three bio-inspired MEMS directional microphones to localize the incoming sound. With an interface of in-house designed circuit and analog logic, the AI speaker was experimentally measured in an anechoic chamber using simultaneous application of multiple sources with different frequencies. At the end of the analog logic, the AI speaker showed the signal-of-interest at maximum sound intensity and higher frequency (within the bandwidth). Considering the fly O.ochracea-inspired MEMS directional microphone, this work gives the basis of using sub-wavelength directional sensing for smart speaker.
