Abstract:

The aim of this study is to develop a score calculation method for expressing directional dominance in the images. It is predicted that this score will give an information of how much improvement in system performance can be achieved when using a directional total variation-based regularization instead of a total variation. For this purpose, 5 images, which have directional dominance in different quantities, were selected. The directional total variation values are calculated by using different sensitivities in the direction of the directional dominance of these images. The slope of these values is determined as the directional dominance score of the image. To verify this score, the noise reduction performances were examined by using direction invariant total variation and directional total variation regulators of 5 images. The correlation between the directional dominance scores of the images and improvement in the performance is examined. As a result, it has been observed that the directional dominance score and the success rate in noise reduction performance are correlated.
