Abstract:
In this paper, a 4-coil resonance based wireless power transfer system is designed at 6.78 MHz to wirelessly charge the smartphones. The proposed design is simulated using a magnetic field simulator and the performance is evaluated in terms of power transfer efficiency (PTE) obtained under perfect alignment and angular misalignments. The simulated results show that the system achieved a minimum PTE of 74% irrespective of the alignment configuration. To analyze the design in real environment, the simulated system is validated through experiment and the results show that the system was able to achieve an average of 60% under all alignment configurations. A maximum PTE of 77.8% was achieved under 70° of angular misalignment of where the distance between the coils is 15 mm and the achieved PTE does not descend abruptly even under severe misalignment.
