Abstract:

In variable speed applications based on brushless direct-current motor (BLDCM) drives, two types of popular control strategies are distinguished: direct current control (DCC) and direct torque control (DTC). The paper investigates a simulation evaluation of three control strategies for three-level three-phase inverter fed BLDCM drives, namely: (i) DCC, (ii) conventional strategy inspired from the earlier Takahashi DTC strategy implemented in induction motor drives DTC1, and (iii) a proposed DTC2 strategy leads to suppress the torque ripples penalizing the DTC1 strategy. The control strategies efficiencies under consideration are analyzed and compared based on several simulation results. The comparative study has highlighted the superiority of the the proposed DTC2 strategy which exhibits damped torque ripples.
