Abstract:

An effective way of power flow alternation through the lines is to reconfigure radial distribution network. Such a reconfiguration allows the opening and closing of the normally open or closed switches while keeping the radial structure and ensuring the supply of all connected loads. With the aim of pinpointing the optimal network configuration, the present paper suggests a Metaheuristic Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Coupled with the MATPOWER toolbox method, PSO technique enable the recognition of tie switches with the objective of minimizing real power loss while simultaneously improving the voltage profile of the system. The actual performance of the suggested method was tested at different load patterns on the IEEE 33-bus radial distribution system and the results it yielded revealed that a good efficiency/success rate compromise was reached in comparison with previously published algorithms.
